There is no better time to write a December wrap-up than sitting in café 4 hours before boarding a plane, am I right?
Quite frankly, I can hardly remember what I did in December, except going to school, taking pictures and going to church on Sundays, hence the lateness of this letter.
One of these December highlights was hosting my dear friend from Berlin - Varya. We haven’t seen each in other for a year, and God only knows when we will meet again, but she and her husband played a huge role in my dream-coming-true of studying photography in Vienna, and they continue supporting and encouraging me through this journey, which I really appreciate.
We both experienced Vienna Christmas markets for the first time, and I have to say they are pretty spectacular. If haven’t seen my blog post on Advent in Vienna, just click here.
Christmas started early for me - we had our ‘Christmas with Friends’ service at 'Immanuel Biblegemeinde' church on December 13th, and I couldn’t be happier about that. I always wanted to try this west-European spirit of Christmas celebration, and I got to celebrate it twice before leaving to Ukraine for holidays.
Speaking of Ukraine…
My homecoming was definitely the most awaited highlight and a wonderful thing to close this year with. I spent the New Year’s Eve and my birthday in Lutsk, and my heart was overjoyed seeing all the familiar faces and places. But more on that in my January blog post, which is apparently coming soon.
It’s hard to believe how much my life has changed in a past year: I started my year in an orphan house in north-eastern Ukraine, spending the New Year’s Even with great people serving the most wonderful kids for three days.
Spring was filled with a lot of hustle, running between a new job, university and German courses, making photography in short pauses between those. Summer is when all the craziness of my visa application started, and I still get goosebumps just thinking about it.
Autumn, the time when I moved to Austria and started my photography studies, flew by like an arrow, and here I am again - stepping into a new year, being 22 and having even more dreams but not plans. With the pace of life I have now, the furtherest I plan is two months - life is made of surprises and I can’t wait to face as many of them as possible.
Almost forgot! Here's the latest vlog :)
